Sample Letters
1/11/13
Congress and the White House need to her from us! They need to know that the United States citizens are on to the “Smart Scheme” and we are not liking it.
Good ways of getting through to Congress are letters, faxes, petitions, phone calls, but emails are last on the list.
Below are sample letters you can use as a template and make it your own or send just as is.
After the below sample letter are the names and addresses of Congressional reps currently in the committee that over sees the introduction of HR 2685 the bill calling for mandatory smart grid in the US. This bill is the fire that needs immediate putting out! There are others in Congress which we will post here soon. We need to stop all funding of smart grid and go back to what was once safe, healthy and Constitutionally correct. Analog meters only and for no extra fee.
TIPS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR STOPMARTGRID.ORGs LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGNS.
The U.S. Congress is considering a new law that would force every household to use a smart meter in order to create a total nationwide smart grid. We can stop this law if enough people let Congress know they oppose it.
You can help stop this law by writing a letter to a member of Congress. Writing letters is the most effective way to get a member of Congress’ attention and help stop the Smart Grid Law. Emails are often overlooked. Letters are much more effective.
StopSmartGrid.org is starting a series of letter writing campaigns, with each campaign focusing on different aspects of the issue (Health, environment, privacy, over-billing, etc.). Staying focused on one or two issues at a time will get us more bang for the bucks: more exposure, more opportunities to repeat our message.
The first campaign covers Health and Environment. (Privacy, over billing and other campaigns will follow.)
Sections below: Tips for letter writing, sample letters, references and links used in letters, list of Representatives and contact info.
TIPS FOR LETTER WRITING:
The most effective letters are brief (1 page) and to the point.
Your letter should contain:
• an ask ( you oppose the bill),
• the bill number HR 2685
• Why you oppose the bill. Our first campaign drive is Health and Environment (privacy and other issues will be in future campaigns
• It is okay to be angry, but be factual and courteous. Stay away from conspiratorial or accusatory language. We have science on our side. Remember that many of these representatives have been told these devices are safe.
• If you have factual documentation, it is best to send it under separate cover. This gives you TWO opportunities to put each issue in front of them. (See second sample letter)
Please look at the attached list of Representatives involved in this Sub-Committee that have authority over the Smart Grid. Send a letter to the Head of the Sub-Committee, and if any of the Representatives are in your district, send one to them as well.
Below is a sample letter that you can use, however, you can also put it in your own words.

Re: HR 2685
Dear Representative McNearney:
I am writing to urge you to reconsider HR 2685 (Smart Grid Advancement Act) which is now in your subcommittee. I appreciate the efforts to move towards a reduction of energy consumption, however, this fast moving rollout of the smart grid has not afforded science the time to truly study health effects as well as environmental effects.
Most of the studies done that claim that the Smart Grid is safe were done on thermal effects only; but studies involving non thermal effects are emerging every day and pointing towards serious health problems. People are already fleeing from the smart grid, with health complaints that include heart palpitations, vertigo, migraines, insomnia, tinnitus and even more serious problems including heart attacks, defibrillator shut offs, cancer and miscarriages. The sheer number of these complaints should be raising alarms that more studies need to be done.
The American Academy of Environmental Medicine has called for extreme caution citing peer-reviewed studies and stating that “significant harmful biological effects occur from non‐thermal RF exposure. Genetic damage, reproductive defects, cancer, neurological degeneration and nervous system dysfunction, immune system dysfunction, cognitive effects, protein and peptide damage, kidney damage, and developmental effects have all been reported in the peer-reviewed scientific literature. “
Dr. Pall’s recent paper in the Journal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine shows a strong link between EMF exposures and a disruption of the Voltage Gated Calcium Channels and goes a long way towards explaining the symptoms and complaints listed above. The WHO/IARC lists Radio Frequency electromagnetic fields as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”. But people are being harmed right now as evidenced by the complaints cited to the California Public Utilities Commission and other PUC’s across the country. Thanks to Dr. Pall’s paper, we now have valid explanations as to why this is happening.
Environmentally, there are also concerns that this smart grid is creating a different kind of pollution that will create a completely different set of environmental problems. There are even studies showing that this electrical pollution is a contributing factor to the Colony Collapse Disorder in Bees.
Instead of Passing HR 2685, your subcommittee should immediately encourage an investigation of both short and long term NON Thermal health effects of this Smart Grid and EMF exposures. Sadly, once the Smart Grid is fully in place, it will be too late. It will be almost impossible to show cause and effect to health complaints because the high levels of Radio Frequency Radiation will be everywhere. It will also be expensive and difficult to undo.
I will send you additional scientific information in the near future that will back up my concerns about this bill.
Sincerely,
FOLLOW UP LETTER:

Re: HR 2685 follow up data
Dear Representative McNerney:
In my earlier letter stating my strong opposition to the Smart Grid Advancement Act (HR2685) I said that I would send you additional scientific information explaining my objections. This packet includes a sample of both scientific and straight forward information on the serious health problems created by a nationwide Smart Grid. This information is only the tip of the iceberg. There are hundreds of peer-review scientific studies that show a link between Smart Grid created electric fields and several major medical problems.
I want to reemphasize my strong conviction that current Smart Grid technology has not developed ways to prevent serious health and environmental risks.
Rushing to establishing a comprehensive mandatory Smart Grid now is a major mistake that will cause serious widespread harm to a large population of the American people.
Instead of passing HR2685, your subcommittee should order the US EPA and also the FCC to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the health problems generated by Smart Grid including Radio Frequency radiation, electromagnetic fields and dirty electricity. The focus should be not just on thermal effects, but also NON thermal effects. The efforts take by federal agencies to date are vastly inadequate.
Again, passing the Smart Grid Advancement Act is a grave error that will create a major national health problem.
Yours truly,
